Fourth of July is right around the corner, and San Antonio is going all out this year with America’s 250th birthday celebrations. Whether you want a full day of festivities or just a great spot to catch the fireworks, here’s where to take the family.
Downtown San Antonio
Woodlawn Lake Park is hosting the city’s official HEB Fourth of July Celebration, and it’s free and open to everyone. The fun kicks off at 10 AM and runs until 9:30 PM, with live music, carnival rides, food trucks, and kids’ activities near the playground. The fireworks finale lights up around 9 PM. This is a great low-stress option if you’ve got little ones since you can come and go as needed.
Civic Park at Hemisfair is the place to be for the Stars & Stripes Downtown Spectacular. The day starts early with a 5K and a parade down Houston Street, then transitions into a food and music festival before wrapping up with fireworks and a drone show at 9 PM.
If you want a different vantage point, the River Walk has you covered too. Go Rio is running a Fireworks Viewing Party Cruise with kids’ tattoos and a mascot on board, perfect for younger kids who’ll enjoy the boat ride as much as the fireworks. For a skyline view, Tower of the Americas is hosting a Sky High Fireworks Viewing Party starting at 7 PM.
Theme Parks
For an all-day family outing, SeaWorld San Antonio puts on a fireworks show over the lake at 9:45 PM, included with park admission. Just find a spot around the lake about 15 minutes before showtime for a good view.
Six Flags Fiesta Texas is celebrating with Star-Spangled Nights on both July 3rd and 4th, featuring a 360-degree fireworks display and a new drone show after dark.
Around the Suburbs
If you’d rather skip downtown traffic, the surrounding towns have some great options too.
Schertz is hosting its annual Jubilee at Pickrell Park, with a morning 5K, parade, carnival, live music, and fireworks around 9:15 PM.
Helotes puts on an Independence Day Celebration at the Festival Grounds from 6 to 11 PM, known for one of the best fireworks displays in the area.
La Vernia’s Community Park celebration includes food trucks and water slides, with fireworks at 9:30 PM, and Castroville is hosting an Old Fashioned 4th of July at the Regional Park from 3 to 10 PM.
A Few Tips
Arrive early to grab a good spot, especially at the more popular locations. Bring blankets or lawn chairs, sunscreen, bug spray, and plenty of water. And if you’re headed to Woodlawn Lake Park, keep in mind there’s no overnight camping allowed and parking enforcement is strict, so plan accordingly.
However you celebrate, San Antonio has no shortage of ways to ring in America’s 250th birthday with the whole family.
