When Does School Start? Your 2026–2027 San Antonio Area District Calendar Guide | San Antonio Moms MailChimp Code

Summer is flying by, and if you’re anything like us, you’re already thinking about school supplies, first-day-of-school outfits, and getting back into a routine. But before you can plan any of that, you need to know one thing: when does your kiddo actually go back?

San Antonio is home to more than a dozen school districts, and every single one sets its own calendar. That means your neighbor’s kids might head back a full two weeks before yours. We rounded up the first day of school for every major district in the San Antonio area so you can start counting down (or dreading) the days.

Dates reflect the most recently published 2026–2027 district calendars as of this post. A few smaller districts (like Lackland and Medina Valley) hadn’t finalized calendars at the time of writing. Because calendars can shift until final board approval, always double check with your specific district before marking your calendar in permanent ink.

The Early Birds

Northside, South San Antonio, and East Central ISD families are heading back first, on August 10. If your kids are zoned to one of these districts, that back-to-school shopping trip needs to happen sooner rather than later.

The Middle of the Pack

The biggest cluster of districts kicks off between August 12 and 13, including San Antonio ISD, Harlandale, Southside, Judson, Boerne, Fort Sam Houston, Randolph Field, and Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD. If you’ve got kids in different districts within this window, at least you’re not too far off from each other.

The Late Summer Holdouts

North East ISD, New Braunfels ISD, and Somerset ISD families get a little extra summer, starting August 17. Alamo Heights follows on August 19, and Southwest ISD and Comal ISD round things out as the last to start, on August 24 and August 25 respectively.

Don’t Forget

Edgewood ISD’s start date varies by campus, so check directly with your child’s school. And if you’re in a smaller district like Lackland or Medina Valley, keep an eye on your district website since those calendars were still being finalized.
