Keeping cool in the Texas heat is a must during the summertime. Try out some of these outdoor water activities this summer from the comfort of your own backyard!
Splash Around in a Kiddie Pool
Pool time is our favorite summertime activity because it keeps everyone entertained for hours. For small backyards, kiddie pools can still provide hours of entertainment for littles. We even place a small slide into ours and it allows the kids to run out their energy while staying cool!
Turn on the Sprinklers
Playing in the sprinklers can be a great way to keep cool and still run out some energy after being cooped up inside all day. There are awesome, fun sprinklers online depending on your kids’ age and interests.
TIP: Let the water from the hose run for a bit before allowing the kids to play in the sprinklers. This Texas sun is no joke and the stored up water can cause severe burns on little bodies!
Enjoy a Slip-n-Slide
Slip-n-Slides create a fun atmosphere, even in the smallest of outdoor spaces! Many Slip-n-Slides even have fun sprinkler attachments to enjoy while others are enjoying the slide.
TIP: Like mentioned above, let the water run from the hose for a bit to prevent burns from the hot water.
Have a Water Gun Fight
Water guns are fun for kids of every age and can be used in spaces, big and small! Cheap dollar store water guns are great starters for young kids, while the older kiddos can enjoy the mega super soaker water guns.
Have a Water Balloon Fight
Water balloon fights are also a great outdoor activity for smaller spaces, and can even be done in a driveway. Keep in mind, cleanup can be time consuming, so bring out some music and create a fun game to help make cleaning up the pieces more fun!
Put the Water Hose on the Trampoline
I know this one is one many of us moms did for hours growing up. Throwing the water hose on the trampoline and sometimes even adding a little bit of oil can be a slippery, fun time! Create funny drawings on the trampoline, or even practice writing letters with younger kiddos!
Invest in a Water Table
Water tables or water sensory bins are fantastic sources of fun for younger kids and they are a great way to keep cool! Some even have running water parts and sprinklers to enjoy. Add water toys to keep imaginations running free!
“Paint” with Water on the Fence
For those of you with wooden fences, simply a bucket of water and a paint brush can provide endless entertainment for kids. Have them draw faces, shapes, letters, or even a family photo with zero clean up afterward! (This is a HUGE win, mamas!)
Misting fans can do wonders when the heat is coming down hard and there is little breeze. Add in ice and a few drops of peppermint essential oil to really keep skin feeling cool and refreshed. This is also a great tip for spectating outdoor sports!
Cooling towels are a must in our household for the Texas outdoor heat. These special towels have a cooling sensation when wet and keep us cool for hours, even without a nearby water source! Each of our kids has one in their favorite color!
Join in on the Fun!
Mamas, get in there and enjoy these activities with your kiddos! These activities can be fun for all ages, and your kids don’t care what you think you look like without makeup, in a swimsuit, or anything else. Spending quality time together is what helps us get through these hot summers!
